Three Easy Last Minute Halloween Costumes

-

Oh my gosh. It's Halloween! If you're like me and procrastinated until the very last second with this whole costume business, you're in luck! I don't know how I just discovered Studio DIY, but now that I have, I am completely on the cute-crafty bandwagon that the site is all about! These are my favorite easy costume ideas, but explore the website because there are SO MANY! Any guesses on which costume I picked? Well it just so happened that LA had a stormy forecast for the weekend, so the "It's Raining Men" costume couldn't have been more perfect! I did most of my spooky celebrating this past weekend because tonight I'll be driving back to Northern California (I'll share more on why I'm back in NorCal soon! Exciting reasons I promise!) I'm not going to lie that I'm kind of freaked out to be making the 8 hour drive alone on Halloween of all nights!

Sidenote: All throughout my childhood, my family went all out on Halloween. And by all out, I mean we would build a haunted house in our garage and have the whole neighborhood come through. And it wasn't a cute, spooky haunted house. It was a legit, scary, terrifying haunted house! That being said, I'm used to looking like a creepy-pale-possessed-zombie girl of some sort. I'm not really used to the whole idea of wearing a cute costume. But hey, these costume ideas make it fun to not be scary!

Beautiful On The Inside and Out

-

Ever since my junior high years, I struggled with acne. I figured the breakouts were just a phase, something I would grow out of. But as I moved on to college, my breakouts just got worse. If I'm being honest, I wasn't getting great sleep, fueled my body with unhealthy dining hall food, and was constantly stressed out. I realized that how I looked on the outside was a reflection of how I felt on the inside. On this little space on the internet, I always try to stress the importance of true beauty and really, truly loving yourself for who you are. For the first time in my life, my acne was effecting my confidence, and I knew I had to make a change. I started trading sugary frappuccinos for green juice. I replaced Netflix bingeing with a daily yoga class. I made getting my eight hours of sleep a night a priority. And I committed to finding a skincare routine that actually worked for me. I started using toner, a gentle cleanser, a really nice moisturizer, and the Clarisonic Mia 2 each morning, night, and after a workout. This routine may not work for everyone, but it sure did work for me. Now, I can't believe that I would ever even think about leaving my makeup on overnight or not washing my face in the morning! If I don't use my certain skincare products and my Clarisonic Mia 2, my face just doesn't feel clean! I committed to taking care of my sleep, food, exercise, and skincare routine, and I felt so much better all around. It is amazing what taking a little extra time out of the day to and invest in your health can do. How I felt on the inside, began to reflect on the outside in the most positive way. I still struggle with the occasional breakout, but thanks to these changes, I look and feel so much more confident, healthy, and truly beautiful.

PS- You'll be seeing more posts featuring the incredible photography of Miss Lauren Kim in the upcoming weeks! We shot some really fun content together and I cannot wait to show you! She is so talented and I just love working with other young creatives who are passionate and driven and just excited about life. Definitely check out her site and reach out if you're looking for a photographer in Southern California. She's the coolest.

Pink + Denim

-

photos by Angelika Johns

Oh, what I would be give to be back in Georgetown with some of my favorite people, shooting pictures all around town. This day was one of my absolute favorites. It was early July (wow how has it been four months?!) and consequently steaming hot in a way that only DC can make equally miserable and charming. In fact, it was so hot outside, that about an hour into our day of picture taking and exploring, we had to seek shelter inside of a J Crew just to bask in the air conditioning. Well, if you know me, you will know that I cannot just stop in J Crew for a few minutes without at least taking a quick look at the sale rack. Which brings me to this outfit. I found both the pink tank and denim skirt hanging on that sale rack! I'm usually not an impulse buyer, but I fell in love and walked out of that glorious air conditioned J Crew feeling like a whole new woman!

I know I already shared a post wearing this exact same outfit from this exact same shoot with Angelika, but hey this is my little space on the internet, and if I want to make two posts out of one outfit I'm doing it! But really, I feel like my last post wearing this outfit was way more about how much I love this little blogging community rather than what I was actually wearing. Travel Diary: Cozumel 2016

-

Now that the new site is up, I'm finally getting to share this little video I made of our trip to Cozumel! If you didn't know, the Payne fam traveled to Cozumel, Mexico this past summer and it was one of our favorite trips ever! I've written tons of posts on our trip, including a list of my travel essentials, outfits I wore on the trip, and a guide of exactly how to spend a week in Cozumel with my favorite restaurants, shops, and beaches! Making this video has me a) wishing it was summer and not midterm season and b) wanting to hop on a plane back to Cozumel this very second!

PS: Thank you so much for every kind word, comment, or sweet text about the relaunch of Practically Imperfect! It meant so much to have your encouragement yesterday! My day was filled with lots of smiling and happy dancing, that's for sure!
