Sausalito City Guide

When I'm not in LA during the school year, I call this little city of Sausalito my home away from home. Our little home in the bay is my own version of paradise; quiet, peaceful, and only a short drive away from San Francisco. Sausalito, often outshone by it's metropolitan neighbor, has its own undeniable charm and beauty that, in my opinion, matches or even beats SF's. The two cities on each side of he Golden Gate Bridge have similar vibes but very different paces. Where SF is fast and busy, Sausalito thrives on peace and stillness. One of the very first things I did after we moved in was sit on the dock and make a Sausalito bucket list. I didn't want to miss a thing in this little city! Throughout our first summer living there, we definitely found our favorite spots and things to do.

Eat and Drink:
Salito's for classic seafood right on the water (my favorite restaurant in town!)
Equator Coffee for the best chai latte on this earth
Honeymoon Ice Cream for unique ice cream flavors with local ingredients
Juice Girl for fresh acai bowls, green juice, and avocado toast
Pick Me Up Chocolate for the best chocolate truffles
Le Garage for the best French food in the Bay Area
F3 (Le Garage's sister restaurant) for equally incredible French food in a more casual setting
Laperts Ice Cream for classic flavors at this local staple
Cibo for their local ingredients, delicious brunch, and excellent Blue Bottle coffee
Salsalito's for Mexican seafood and the best salsa
Fish for the best Dungeness crab rolls (be prepared to wait in a long line)
Sausalito Seahorse for the authentic Italian food and live music

Chai lattes from Equator Coffee

Honeymoon Ice Cream
See and Do:
Muir Woods for a hike through the stunning Redwoods.
Kayak for a unique way to explore the floating homes in Sausalito
Hwy 1 for the scenic route starting in Sausalito, through the Marin Headland, and across the Golden Gate.
Rodeo Beach for a perfect, cloudy afternoon on the water
Marin Headlands for a picnic with a view of the Golden Gate
Sailboat for a perfect morning on the Bay
Golden Gate Bridge for a morning run (or walk) before the crowds get too crazy!
Proof Lab for a surf and skate shop like no other.
Elephant Fountain for enjoying a scoop of Lapert's Ice Cream in Town Square
Socksalito for the craziest, funky socks and a shopping experience like no other!

Do visit Sausalito during the week! Weekends are crazy.
Don't rent bikes and ride from SF --> Sausalito.
Don't go to the Muir Woods during the weekend. You won't be able to find parking.
Do stay in a floating home instead of a hotel for the most authentic experience!
Do admire the wildlife from afar when kayaking or spending time on the water.
