Why Hiking Has a Special Place in My Heart

Hiking will always hold a special place in my heart. We were on a hike when I knew I wanted to spend the rest of my life with Kyle. We got engaged on a hike. And now we're spending our last week before the big day hiking the little mountain range in the town we've called home for most of our lives. As long as I've got Kyle, plenty of snacks, and our High Sierra backpack, I'm ready for all the hikes and adventures to come.

Groom's Wedding Gifts Ideas

Attention: We are in the home stretch before the big day. The countdown is on, its all setting in, and I could not be more excited! One of the many little details of the big day is getting a small, yet meaningful gift for your partner, and I'm not going to lie, I felt like the pressure was on when I started thinking about what to get. This felt like it had to be the most special gift ever.  Birthdays and Christmas come around every year, so if you mess up a gift, you are guaranteed a re-do. Your wedding day, however, is once in a lifetime. And I wanted to find something that perfectly captured our relationship and what Kyle means to me. For us, that meant something with meaning and memory attached. Like a record of our favorite songs, map of a meaningful place to our relationship, or something we could make future memories with. When I let go of finding something absoltuely perfect, that's when the fun of gift hunting kicked in! This post is compilation of inspiration for something meaningful and fun for your groom! Hopefully, it can be a great starting off point to get the creative juices flowing. So get creative, and get shopping!

Pour Over Coffee Maker: If he is a coffee lover, this is the perfect addition to his morning routine (and makes great decor for the kitchen). Every morning Cup of Joe will be a beautiful reminder of your wedding day.

Watch: A classic gift that he'll wear daily. Kyle already has a watch he loves, but I did the cheesiest thing ever and got it engraved saying "I love you for all time" as a college graduation gift last year.

Etched Map Pint Glass: Bonus points for getting a special place to your relationship engraved on the glasses. Beer and memories... name a better combo, I'll wait!

Record Player: Another great decor piece that also serves a functional purpose. To make the gift even more special, include a record or artist that has meaning to your relationship.

Beer Brewing Kit: I am a big fan of experiential gifts and learning to brew together is such a fun date night!

Double Hammock: Perfect for getting cozy under the stars, whether you're hanging in the backyard or on a camping trip.

Portable Projector : A less romantic gift, but very fun and functional! I got Kyle this one for Christmas a few years ago and it is the gift that he uses the most! Perfect for movie nights on a budget.

Shaving Kit: A classic gift for a classic guy

Hiking Backpack: For the adventurous couple, who will be spending lots of weekends exploring the great outdoors!

Heart Boxers: What better way to remember the day than with a pair of lucky underwear!

Fall Styles by Kohl's

Outfit 1

Let’s get real. For a proud nerd like myself, back to school season was always right up there with the holiday season. The anticipation and excitement of preparing for the new school year was something I always looked forward to, and my parents made sure to keep those back to school traditions alive from my very first day of school as a kindergartener to my days as a college student. We always made a whole day of back to school shopping, from picking up paper and binders to hitting the mall for a few new outfits. We’d get back home with all of our loot and then, being the type A person I am, I’d fold and organize all of my clothes and pack up my backpack with my new school supplies… sometimes three weeks before the first day of school. I’m telling you what, Hannah as a kid was big time type A and proud.

Outfit 2
Even though I’m no longer in school, this time of year always feels fresh and new. Now, instead of a first day of school outfit, I’m shopping for the first day of work (#postgradlife) and a honeymoon right around the corner! No matter who you are, this time of year is new and exciting and I want my wardrobe to reflect that! So, whether you’re BTS shopping (or honeymoon packing!), Kohls has got you covered! I’m loving all the fun and feminine pieces in their Candie’s collection like this gorgeous white eyelet jacket, these staple cropped denim jeans, and these flowy black trousers that are perfect for breezy beach dinners on our honeymoon. What I love most about shopping at Kohl’s is their Kohl’s Cash program that literally pays to shop. This back to school season (8/2-8/18), Kohl’s is offering $10 off your $50 BTS purchase and can be used on all Candie’s apparel! And here’s the best part… Kohl’s unveiled their latest and greatest fashions just in time for Back to School season—so there are tons of new and trendy options that will have you looking and feeling your best right in time for the first day of school, work, vacation, or wherever else life takes you!

Why Switching Majors Was the Best Thing I Did for Myself in College

Throughout my entire freshman year of college, a wave of panic would crash over me whenever I was asked, "what major are you?" I didn't have a major. I wanted to be a communication studies major, but I wasn't. I was undeclared. Just that word gave me anxiety.  I was feeling like just a number; one of many in this great scary school that didn't feel like it had a place for me. I'm not one to settle for being inadequate or unhappy, and I usually work hard to find my groove, but once I find it, I'm good to go.

My entire freshman year, I never did. It never fully clicked, I always felt one step out of place.  It was a year of growth, that's for sure. And it was a year of testing and building and learning so much beyond just the lecture hall. The stress of school was having tangible effects on my relationship with school and my positivity in general. It wasn't a positive source in my life. Then I had my epiphany. The two classes that brought me the most joy and success (both personally and academically) were speech and theater. They came naturally; I worked hard and wanted to invest hours working on my essays, projects, and presentations for those classes. Not only did I do well in those classes, but I am positive that they helped me find the spark and do better in my other classes as well.

When I love what I am doing, I throw all of myself into it, and am exponentially more successful than when I am drudging through. When I am working hard in a creative space, literally every other aspect of my life operates at a pace conducive to happiness and joy and fulfillment and my definition of success. It came to me as I was driving back from shooting 13 Reasons.

Once I made my decision, I actually found myself excited to go back to school and start classes rather than dreading it. I don't want to spend my college career going through the motions to earn a degree that didn’t fulfill me. I needed to follow that spark. It's a special and rare thing when you encounter those moments of pure energy, inspiration, and creative fire, and you must follow them.

If that means writing a 1000 page thesis DO IT, if that means landing a killer internship at a research lab DO IT, if that means finding your spark, your community, your people in that place you least expected, GO FOR IT. I guess what I'm trying to say is that you can't follow that path that is practical, follow that one that you're passionate about.

Let's Talk Healthcare

You guys know I’ve talked about my battle against acne ever since my junior high days. I’ve worked hard to strike the perfect balance between finding effective products and having a lifestyle conducive to overall health. I've aimed to reduce stress, get enough sleep each night, eat clean, and find products that work for me instead of against me. As the wedding draws nearer, I’ve been more proactive about using products that will make me look and feel my absolute best for that big day (and beyond the wedding too!). For me, the most effective way to clear up my skin has been by using prescription medications… which is where Alpha Medical steps in.

Why Alpha?
I just started a new full time job, I’m planning our upcoming wedding (just one month away!), and managing 5 other hats… and aren’t we all?! Us women lead full, bust, and active lives. What I don’t have time for is scheduling all the appointments, pickups, etc for something as integral to life as healthcare. That’s why my Alpha Medical delivery comes right to my door every month with the prescriptions I need.

What Products?
Life is busy and chaotic, and healthcare isn’t one of the things that should add to that chaos. I have specifically loved working with Alpha to receive my prescriptions for my topical acne cream and Latisse, the only FDA-approved serum for eyelash growth. (You can see all of the prescriptions they currently provide here!)

And the process for getting what I needed was super simple! I simply created an account, got connected with one of Alpha’s medical professionals, and we decided on the best treatments together.

Because Alpha is led by women, they understand and advocate for women’s needs by making healthcare more accessible to more women than ever before. With a care team that goes above and beyond, products like birth control are easier than ever to obtain. And when it’s time to refill, they arrive right to your door, carving out the time, expenses, and inconvenience that typically come with getting the medications you need.

Women First
When it comes to my health and getting the prescriptions I need, Alpha is the choice that just makes sense. I love working with a company that puts women first. Because when women win, everyone wins!

All photos are by my new friend, the incredibly talented photographer, Conner Smith! He is just about the nicest person you'll ever meet and is seriously going places. Just graduated from FDIM, moving to LA, and has killer style to boot. If you're in need of styling, brand photography, or want to shoot with a rad photographer... he's your guy!

Current Favorites

This post is one of my favorites because its all the stuff I've been LOVING lately! From the charcoal bar that has been seriously clearing up breakouts to the bag I can't live without (and have so far taken with me to NYC, Paris, and Austin to name a few...) I also couldn't help but include some long time staples -- like my trusty pink NMDs and Swell bottle, that I use every time I workout. I am a big time saver, so I am really careful about which products to invest in. Each of these items definitely receives the Hannah G Payne seal of approval (if that means anything, lol). Enjoy and happy shopping!

Must Haves to Pack for India

India can be an intimidating place to travel. There are different factors to consider than when packing for a trip in the US or Europe. But just because there are different factors to consider than a typical trip doesn't mean there is any reason to be nervous about visiting this beautiful country! The key is to be prepared for the unplanned and have a small bag with all the essentials with you at all times. Unexpected rain storm? No problem, you have a poncho. Long bus ride? You've got snacks. Need to jot down a memory? You don't go anywhere without

Note: This is not a full packing list or guide to traveling to India. There are definitely other things like meds, specific clothing for the weather, travel visas, etc to consider. This is my list of additional, less common items that were super helpful to have on my trip!
I'm from California where it it super dry during the summers. In India, there was often 80% humidity which left my skin sweaty and gross. When I got back to the hotel at night, I wanted nothing more than to cleanse my skin and put on a mask.

Universal power converter
Even if your hotel has sockets that fit US plugs, use the converter. Take it from the expert who plugged her expensive curling iron in, fried the iron, and blew a circuit in the hotel. (Not kidding!)

Crystal light single packets
In India, bottled water only and no juice or fresh produce. I was serious missing fruit about half way though the trip and luckily remember that we packed some of those crystal light and disability single packet juice mixes.

Theses sandals are PERFECT (I now have 3 pairs!). I got a pair sent to me a few years ago from The Avarca Store, but I promise this is not paid for or sponsored in any way. I wear these sandals non stop, especially when I am traveling. They are so comfortable, ultra durable, and cover my feet without being too hot. Plus I've worn them through multiple rain storms and they dry within 20 minutes.

I carried one with me the whole time. At certain monuments and temples, your head and shoulders must be covered. And if your feeling the uncomfortable stares it's nice to have the option always with you to cover up a little more.

Hand sanitizer + baby wipes
The heat/humidity combined with the dozens of tourist stops you'll make during your trip can leave you feeling pretty grimy. Not to mention, there is often no toilet paper in many of the public restrooms. Carrying your own sanitation products will give you a peace of mind and preparedness about being out and about on long days.

Father's Day Gift Guide

Guess what is right around the corner... Father's Day! It's hard to believe, but June has descended upon us, summer is in full swing, and that means it's time to celebrate our dads! My dad is my pal for life, the one who introduced me to camping, music, and the world's best pancake, and I am so thankful for him! For my family, Father's Day is wedged right in between two college commencements (UCLA for me, UCI for Kyle!), but that does not mean it should go any less celebrated! In fact, I think dads deserve to be celebrated beyond just Father's Day! Which is where finding the perfect gift comes in...

Bestowe is my new favorite way to find beautiful and meaningful gifts that will be appreciated far beyond the actual day. Catherine, the founder and creative force behind the brand, works to craft the most stunning gift boxes that perfectly combine functionality and form. For Father's Day, she created an entire collection of custom gift boxes that will suit every dad in your life. From the traveler to the mixologist, Bestowe has you covered! I can imagine each dad in my life -- from my own dad, to my grandpa, to uncles, and to my future father in law -- enjoying a gift that is tailored to their personalities. I've linked my favorite products and gift boxes below, so let's get shopping! You can use the code: perfect15 for 15% your order placed by June 30th!

(And also...stay tuned for some very fun wedding collaborations with Bestowe in the weeks ahead...)

Mother's Day Gift Guide

Woah, Mother's Day is right around the corner. Which means it's time for some gift hunting! More than anyone else, moms deserve to be celebrated (and thanked) for all the big and little things they do each day! I've linked some of my favorite gift ideas that I know my own mama would love, and I hope yours would to! Side note: my mom always asks for really functional gifts (like a vacuum or kitchen supplies), and I always try to get her a gift that is the exact opposite: something fun but not so functional that makes her feel extra special!

Wedding Dress Q&A!

The feeling of shopping for my wedding dress, "proposing" to my bridesmaids, and ultimately saying YES is an experience I hope stays etched in my memories for the rest of my life. It was a day so full of love, happy tears, and mimosas with some of the most important women in my life.

I knew it was going to be a great day the second our "Dress Shopping Crew" group chat started dropping some amazing wedding GIFs. Everyone from my grandma to my teenage cousins to my college besties were in this group chat, so it was quite the mix. When all twelve people filed into the bridal shop, I think my heart actually melted. My aunt and cousins had driven over 2 hours to be there. My best friends went out of their way to supply snacks and drinks. Seeing my my mom and Kyle's mom sitting next to each other and was the sweetest thing. And everyone was so encouraging, supportive, and helpful in the dress hunt. Family (by blood, marriage, or friendship) is just the special most special thing in the world.

To top it all off, I am so excited to be partnering with Essense of Australia to share some of my favorite styles I tried on and answer all questions dress related! I asked for questions on my Insta stories and am so excited to be featuring them today!  The shop treated us so wonderfully and I can’t recommend The Dresser enough. I asked for questions on my Insta story and today I’m answering them today!

Wedding Dress Shopping Q&A!

Did you get the feeling or moment?
I absolutely did! I thought I was going to go wedding dress shopping with just my mom and have to search at several shops to find the one. Boy was I wrong! The only reason I really planned to go dress shopping on the day that I found my dress was because I invited all of the women in my family and was asking a lot of my cousins to be bridesmaids. I had this plan to come out of the fitting room with a sign asking them, but that was it. I ended up finding my dress with all of their support. Once I put on the dress, I didn't really want to change out of it! I'm so glad that I made the decision with my people cheering me on. Their input and support was actually so useful. These people know me best, so it was so special when everyone instantly agreed that we'd found the dress. In my dress shopping process, I realized it was about finding the dress that feels perfect for you.

What style are you looking for?
I know my body type and I know what styles I usually feel best in, but I think it's really important to try on every fit and style of dress so that you can have absolute certainty! Sometimes you have a specific dress in mind and then you can end up not feeling quite as confident in it. And then something totally out of left field can surprise you and give you feeling that you're looking for!

What has been your favorite part about dress shopping?
Dress shopping can truly be one of the most fun and special parts of wedding planning. And for me, it was all about the people that surrounded me as we spent such a fun morning together! So pop the champagne and soak up this time with your ladies!

How do you pick your bridesmaids dresses?
I'm was excited to discover Sorella Vita’s stunning bridesmaid dress styles! Once I decided on a brand and color, I let my bridesmaids choose any dress that they felt most beautiful and confident in! I think it’s so important to consider everyone’s different preferences and styles, instead of just making the decision myself, I really wanted each of them to actually love their dress. I knew that they were all going to coordinate color-wise and since all of Sorella Vita’s styles are so beautiful, I had no reservations telling my bridesmaids to this pick exactly what they wanted!

Do you have any tips for what to eat or do before starting the day of serious dress shopping?
This is an underrated but super important question! Often dress appointments are earlier in the day, so do not (and repeat! do not) skip breakfast! You will be standing for hours on end and wearing heavy dresses, so I would definitely recommend having a big meal beforehand and hydrating. My maid of honor actually brought some snacks for everyone which was really nice since it can be a long day for everyone!

Do you recommend window shopping before getting serious?
Yes and no. I think having some level of exposure to wedding dresses is helpful (I’m sure we’ve all seen an episode or two of Say Yes to the Dress!), but it is more important to have an open mind! Trust the professionals at the bridal shop, they know what they are doing and will help you feel (and look) great!

Where do you even begin?
The first thing I would do is get excited! This is such a fun and special time. Next step? Set a budget and only let yourself browse dresses within that price point. Shops will be very accommodating and provide plenty of options within your realm of possibility.

Is there a specific style you like best?
If you are making a dress decision soon, the first and important thing to consider is how you feel in it. While it is so wonderful and helpful to have your  feeling wonderful in it. That’s all that really matters. Second if you kind of don't know where to go I was just really think about your Venue you are getting married in Southern California in July it's going to be 80 to 90 degrees and swedes are going to make you feel miserable on the flip side if you're having a beautiful foggy in December wedding that might be something that you want unique situation

As you can see, it is so helpful to try on all styles and fits so that you can truly get a clear idea of what you feel best in. Now I want to know, which Essense of Australia style is your favorite?
